Annual awards program recognizes the people, horses, and facilities shaping Alberta’s equestrian community

Calgary, AB — The Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) is proud to announce that nominations for the Annual Provincial Awards are now open and will remain open until November 30. The awards celebrate the outstanding individuals, horses, and facilities that strengthen Alberta’s equestrian community through leadership, dedication, sportsmanship, and excellence. Recipients will be honoured during Horse Expo Canada in Red Deer.

For years, the Annual Provincial Awards have recognized those who go above and beyond to enrich Alberta’s horse industry and equestrian community. From inspiring coaches and dedicated athletes to volunteers, horses, and facilities that make a lasting impact, the awards shine a spotlight on the many contributors who help the community thrive.

Celebrating Excellence Across Eight Award Categories

The Annual Provincial Awards recognize achievement across eight categories, reflecting the many ways Albertans contribute to the success and growth of equestrian sport and recreation.

Outstanding Instructor/Coach

Recognizes a certified Equestrian Canada NCCP coach or instructor who demonstrates exceptional mentorship, leadership, and a commitment to lifelong learning while creating a safe, supportive environment for both horse and rider.

Outstanding Athlete/Rider

Honours an athlete who exemplifies ambition, determination, resilience, and outstanding horsemanship, demonstrating a strong partnership with their horse through consistent dedication to training and competition.

Sportsmanship Excellence

Celebrates an individual whose integrity, respect, fair play, and positive attitude reflect the true spirit of equestrian sport while always placing horse welfare first.

Outstanding Stable/Facility

Recognizes an AEF stable or facility member that demonstrates excellence in horse care, safety, welfare, facility management, biosecurity, and client service.

Outstanding Equine

Honours a living Alberta equine that has achieved something extraordinary through exceptional accomplishments, resilience, or a meaningful impact on its riders, handlers, and community.

Above and Beyond Excellence

Recognizes an individual whose commitment, initiative, cooperation, and lasting contributions have strengthened Alberta’s equine industry and embodied the values of the AEF.

Outstanding Volunteer

Honours an individual whose exceptional volunteer service, professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication have made a significant positive impact on Alberta’s equestrian community.

Outstanding Equine Support Personnel

Recognizes a professional who provides exceptional care and expertise to horses and riders, including grooms, farriers, veterinarians, therapists, and other equine support specialists whose work is essential to equestrian success.

Nominees may be recognized for a single outstanding accomplishment or for years of meaningful contributions. Whether they are mentoring newcomers, supporting local events, advocating for horse welfare, achieving competitive success, or creating welcoming environments for participants, each nominee helps advance the equestrian community in Alberta.

The Annual Provincial Awards Alumni represent the heart of Alberta’s equestrian community. Past recipients include riders, coaches, volunteers, horses, and facilities that have shaped the province’s rich equestrian tradition and inspired future generations.
