Horse owners in Alberta now have access to critical financial relief through the Equine Emergency Disaster Fund, which is accepting applications for the 2025 intake.

This essential program is designed to support the equine community during times of crisis—whether it’s a wildfire, flood, pandemic, or any officially declared state of emergency. If you’ve been impacted, help is available to offset disaster-related costs.

Who Is Eligible?

If your horses reside in Alberta and have been affected by a declared emergency, you may be eligible for reimbursement of key expenses such as:

  • Emergency boarding
  • Hay and water supplies
  • Veterinary and medical treatment directly related to the disaster

Important Dates

  • Applications open: June 15, 2025
  • Mid-season assessment due: July 15, 2025
  • Final deadline: September 30, 2025

Application Guidelines

  • One application is allowed per equine location or premises per intake.
  • Submit all required documents: receipts, a formal letter of request, and proper signatures.
  • Funding decisions will be made by the Equine Emergency Disaster Fund task force.
  • Resources are limited, so not all requests may be fully covered.
