The AEF’s mission is to support Alberta’s equine community, so our role when it comes to Trail Riding and Recreation is to educate and advocate, not regulate. As such, we have an active volunteer recreation task force that advocates on behalf of equestrians for continued horse access to public trails and lands. The task force is made up of individuals from across the province who are actively involved in Front and Back Country trail riding, trekking, packing and camping. The task force members:
- participate in and provide input to the Government of Alberta’s Plan for Parks and other regulatory bodies on the development and maintenance of trails and recreational areas;
- advocate for equal safe access to trails;
- communicate with Alberta Environment and Parks regarding trailhead and parking management;
- educates the public and other user groups on equestrian trail use safety;
- installs trail safety signage.
