Coach Developers are experienced, trained professionals who help develop, evaluate, and mentor coaches in the Equestrian Canada NCCP program.
They play a key role in ensuring coaching across Canada is safe, effective, and aligned with national standards.
The Three Roles of a Coach Developer (CD)
Click on the arrows below to expand and learn more about each role.
Learning Facilitator (LF)
- Trains coaches to coach at all levels.
- Delivers NCCP workshops and guides coaches through their training process.
Coach Evaluator (CE)
- Evaluates candidates and guides them through the certification process.
- Ensures candidates meet NCCP standards during evaluations.
Master Coach Developer (MCD)
- Trains, mentors, and evaluates Learning Facilitators and Coach Evaluators.
- Must first be qualified as both an LF and CE.
The Coach Developer Pathway
To become a Coach Developer, you must complete the national training pathway:
- NCCP Certification in the context/discipline you plan to support.
- Core Training (multi-sport, through the Coaching Association of Canada).
- Role-Specific Training (LF or CE).
- Co-Delivery with an experienced Coach Developer.
- Evaluation.
⚠ Important: All training must be approved and coordinated through AEF.
Do not register for Core Training or other modules without prior approval — Alberta Sport or Coaching Association of Canada will not accept your registration without endorsement.
Before You Apply
- Certification Requirement: You must already be NCCP Certified in your chosen context.
- Current Demand: Opportunities for new Coach Developers are limited — we only onboard when there’s a clear need and a plan to keep new developers actively engaged.
- Volunteer Development Process: Coach Developer training is unpaid, and some modules may have registration fees.
- Conflict of Interest Policy: Coach Developers may not evaluate or facilitate for their own students or in situations where bias could be perceived.
Skills and Experience We Value
While not required, the following will strengthen your application:
- Formal education or facilitation experience outside of coaching lessons, such as teaching in a classroom or delivering structured training in a school or workshop setting (e.g., a Bachelor of Education or equivalent instructional background).
- Experience working with diverse learning needs and styles.
- Strong technical skills with platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Office, and Smartsheet.
- Knowledge of EC programs, including Learn to Ride/Drive and the Coaching Operations Guide.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
