Resources for Certified Coaches

Coach Status and Coaching Certification work together — but they are not the same thing.

• Coach Status = Your license and screening (Safe Sport, insurance, background check)
• Coaching Certification = Your lifelong NCCP credential (after training and evaluation)

Both are required to coach in EC programs like Rookie Riders* and Learn to Ride & Drive*.

We explain how they work, how to get them, and answer common questions.

Your EC NCCP certification is valid for life, but you must keep it active to be recognized by EC and AEF.

This means:

• Submitting Professional Development (PD) points every 5 years
• Holding an active Licensed Coach Status

PD requirements vary by context (e.g., 10 points for Instructors, 20 for CC/CCS, 30 for HP1).

Being listed in our Coaching Directory is a benefit for EC NCCP-certified coaches with an active Licensed Coach Status — helping riders, parents, and facilities connect with you.

To be listed, you must:

• Keep all requirements current (PD Points, insurance, first aid, etc.)
• Submit the Consent to Display Information form
• Notify AEF when you update your My-EC account

Coach Developers train, evaluate, and mentor coaches in the EC NCCP program. Roles include:

• Learning Facilitator – trains candidates through workshops.
• Coach Evaluator – evaluates candidates for certification.
• Master Coach Developer – trains and mentors Coach Developers.

Becoming a Coach Developer requires NCCP certification, national training, and AEF approval.
