AEF is pleased to host an in-person NCCP Coach Evaluation at Heatherdown Stables in Edmonton on April 25-26, 2026.

Although the evaluation is scheduled over two days, candidates are only required to attend one day.

Important: Prerequisites Must Be Completed Prior to Evaluation

Please read through all prerequisites carefully prior to registration to ensure they are met, or can be fully completed, before the evaluation date.

All candidates must meet the required certification prerequisites before the evaluation date.

Registration does not confirm eligibility. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure all requirements are fully completed.

Active AEF Membership
Minimum Age Requirement
- Instructor – must be at least 16 years of age. Candidates under the age of majority must have their application signed by a parent or legal guardian.
- Competition Coach – must be at least 18 years of age or the provincial age of majority, whichever is greater.
Learn to Ride Certification
- Instructor
  - English Level 6 (or Pony Club C2)
  - OR Western Level 4
- Competition Coach
  - Learn to Ride – English Level 8 (or Pony Club A/B)
  - OR Western Level 4 and Intermediate
NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) Course & Online Evaluation
NCCP Understanding the Rule of Two
EC Sport License (Bronze minimum)
EC Registered Coach Status (minimum requirement), including:
- Screening Disclosure
- Criminal Record Check / Free OneBadge BackCheck
- Vulnerable Sector Search
- Two Coaching Reference Letters
- First Aid Certification
- Concussion Education (Online Module)
- Training for the Prevention of Maltreatment in Sport (Online Module)
- Certificate of Insurance

Accessing NCCP Courses

NCCP courses are available through The Locker.
Once your account is created, navigate to the E-Learning tab to access modules.

Making Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation:

$85 fee if MED training has not been completed
Two attempts to achieve a passing grade of 75%

Or participate in the scheduled training sessions:

Register for a Making Ethical Decisions training course through Alberta Sport (Multi-Sport Calendar). The training course is $65
Upon completion of the training, the evaluation may be taken at no cost, with unlimited attempts

Evaluation Process & Timeline

To support candidate preparation, the following timeline applies:

4 Weeks Prior to Evaluation

Candidates will attend a mandatory Zoom meeting with the Coach Evaluators to:

Review evaluation expectations
Ask questions
Receive assigned lesson topics

2 Weeks Prior to Evaluation

Candidates must submit:

Detailed Lesson Plan
Emergency Action Plan

Successful evaluation of both the Lesson Plan and Emergency Action Plan is required to proceed to the in-person lesson evaluation.

NCCP Evaluation Registration Agreement

By registering for this NCCP Evaluation, you acknowledge that to proceed to evaluation you must have the following requirements fully completed prior to the evaluation date:

Active AEF membership (or membership in your home PTSO)
Required Rider Level certification for your discipline and certification being pursued (as outlined above)
Equestrian Canada Registered Coach Status (minimum), including:
- Valid coach liability insurance
- Completion of required EC online courses
- Valid background screening
- Current First Aid certification
NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) Online Evaluation

Registration and payment of the evaluation fee does not confirm eligibility. It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure all prerequisites are complete prior to the evaluation date.

AEF maintains a strict no-refund policy for NCCP Evaluation registrations.

NCCP Evaluation Agreement & Prerequisite Confirmation

Preferred Evaluation Date

Please select your preferred evaluation date (April 11, April 12, or Either). Date preferences are not guaranteed. AEF will assign evaluation days in an effort to group similar disciplines together to ensure the evaluation schedule runs efficiently. Final confirmation of your assigned evaluation date will be provided during the mandatory pre-evaluation Zoom meeting (4 weeks prior to the event).
