Update on PSO and Equine Canada Discussions PDF Print E-mail

March 26, 2010

Members have been made aware over the past months, of a conflictual situation involving Equine Canada and provincial affiliate members (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Québec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland). Recent talks among parties, qualified as open, honest and productive by the mediator, have yielded encouraging news.

Six of the provincial federations and Equine Canada are working in concert in order to address different issues and problems that are currently a source of confusion among some members and sport licence holders involved with Equine Canada and the provincial federations.

All parties have come to agreement on an action plan aiming to settle these differences. An initial significant step that was made is the agreement that the National Coaching Certification Program and Learn to Ride programs will be delivered by the provincial federations in each of their jurisdictions.

Be assured that the presidents of the organisations involved are working to settle the current differences in the best interests of the members and our sport. Members and sport licence holders will be informed as progress is made.

From Grizzly Bears Updates to Auction Updates PDF Print E-mail

I thought I would bring everyone up to speed, as a lot has been happing.  First of all, I would be remiss if I didn't remind you about the Grande Prairie Rendezvous & People & Peaks Film Fest & Photo Contest:

Grande Prairie Rendezvous
Saturday April 10, 2010
Five Mile Agricultural Society Community Hall Film Festival 3-5 pm Live and Silent Auction Auction Viewing 5-6 pm With Cocktails starting at 6 pm and a banquet dinner at 7 pm.
Photo Contest Rules are attached.  $50.00 tickets.

The Edson, Edmonton and Grande Cache Gala have all been a success. We had a sell out on the Grande Cache Gala with a waiting list of 30 people. We are having a good response so far on the Grande Prairie Rendezvous, so get your tickets early.

Last but not least, I wanted to bring everyone up to date on the latest Grizzly Bear Status Report by the Alberta. The report uses data collected from the advanced technique on DNA surveys, satellite habitat mapping and other information regarding populations and habitat. The Willmore Wilderness Foundation Grizzly Survey was mentioned in the report. The report estimates 691 grizzly bears ranging in density from five to 18 bears per 1,000 square kilometres. Some local populations with significant habitat alteration may be declining; other populations appear stable.

The Willmore Wilderness Foundation STILL FEELS THAT THE ESTIMATE IS LOW BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY LOW ESTIMATE GIVEN IN THE AREA NORTH OF GRANDE PRAIRIE. We especially need all the sightings from this area for our 2010 survey.

For access to the Grizzly Bear Survey go to:

Thank for sending in your grizzly sighting and please continue to send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hope to see you at the Grande Prairie Rendezvous.
